Save the Windsor Hotel

PETITION TO SAVE THE WINDSOR HOTEL

Click on the Peg City Music Journal tab for complete details, stories and hearsay

Let's keep the Windsor Hotel "Nothin' but the Blues!"

Do we really want another parking lot at the expense of culture, heritage, and jobs? Yes, jobs. A parking lot employs no one, not a single person - The Windsor employs 22 people and countless musicians.

love your show
Olivia

Thanks for the kind words - they're our favourites - I'm sure I can vouch for SLV that "Love Your Show" are her favourite words to hear as well - outside of home - I don't want to know what her favourite words said behind closed doors are - Trust me, you don't want to know what mine are - Trust me again - they're all good - broose

Hee Haw!

I couldn't bring myself to link to that christian right nascar-watching bucket-a-chicken-eating oxy-popping good ol' boy - he just makes me shake my head. Banjos - I hear banjos ... Entertaining like a car crash.

  Up yer kilt, senor!

30 AUG 09

We at B4B, me n SLV, want to help ring in the latest Dust Rhinos album - The Day After The Night Before being unleashed September 19th - You will hear the first track September 5th on Beer For Breakfast and Rhinos live in the studio on the 12th - in a proper fashion.:

First, Manners and etiquette, a few simple rules:
  1. Have fun, find a sober person or a cab - Vince representing the U-City in the 1-7-1.
  2. When the band calls, "SOCIABLE," at the top of your lungs answer with , "SOCIABLE," while raising your libation, take a healthy swig, and finish with your best pirate, "ARRRRRRRRGGGHH"
  3. The rest of the night will follow

Secondly, a trio of tipples - nudge nudge wink wink - one for the Night Before, one for The Day After, and one for the sheer fun of it. To quote Homer Simpson, "Mmmm, beer!"

for THE NIGHT BEFORE:

PRAIRIE DOG (Official Beer For Breakfast Beverage):
   In a highball glass:

  • 1 shot Crown Royal
  •
  • 2 shots Canada Dry Ginger Ale
  •
  • 1 or 2 dashes Angostura Bitters
  •
  • Fill with Fort Garry Pale Ale or Half Pints St.James Pale Ale
  •
  • Ice is optional

and for THE DAY AFTER:

BREAKFAST BEER:
   In an old-fashioned glass:

  • Half fill with Tomato/Clamato/V8.
  •
  • 1 dash each:
Salt and pepper, Worcestershire Sauce, and Angostura Bitters
  •
  • Fill with Fort Garry Pale Ale or Half Pints Bulldog Amber Ale
  •
  • Gently stir to mix
  •
  • Break 1 egg into drink
  •
  • Up your kilt!

and just for good measure:

DE WHI BWOY BREWSKI ETE:
In a glass, in a cup, in a can, in a bottle, it don't matter man:

  • Your favourite light beer; a pilsener, a lager, a pale ale, even a lite beer.
  •
  • Uno wedge of lime.
  •
  • A dash or two of Angostura Bitters.
  •
  • Ohhh, yeahhhhh! Take that Kool-Ade!

Now that you are properly prepared, there's only one thing left to make Labour Day Weekend a blast - Tune-age!

THE ALMOST-ALL-REQUEST-LABOUR-DAY-WEEKEND SHOW Saturday September 5th - outside of our interviews with Immaculate Machine and Hot Panda - it's all about all of you who work a forty hour week for a livin just to send it on down the line. Our lines are open to your requests. We will play 'em as we git 'em!

Email your request to broose or Shannah-Lee

An updated playlist will be posted daily.

  2009 ChugFest Poster

22 JUL 09

CONGRATULATIONS TO MARK B.
Click on the poster for a full version, including a map.

Mark won a pair of tix to this Saturday's CHUGFEST, out near Franklin MB. Pushing Daisies and Equal Loudness Curve are trucking out from Peg City to rock the sticks. They will be joined by hard rocking Locomotive, who is using Chugfest to release their debut CD. Also on the bill: Sonic Eclipse (great name), Meatdraw (F*&@ing brilliant name - I love it), and Hellride. Camping/Sleeping in your car - no one drives under the influence. It is BYOB, but NO GLASS. Tix are just $20 available at the gate. I'll try to get a bootleg from the board.
Last night I missed BJ Garrison @ Mona Lisa Ristorante and Lindsey White at Fringe after Dark on the new Old Market Square Stage as I was bagged, but I saw a wicked Nova episode on cuttlefish (Must be brain food - humans and dolphins eat tonnes every year); Thursday - Rik Leaf house concert; Saturday - Chugfest; Sunday - Weeding the garden (volunteers get beer and pizza)!

  2009 Folk Fest Self Portrait

19 JUL 09

After the excitement (and cost) of the Folk Fest, I'm much less inclined to leave the sanctuary of the couch, despite the goodness that is the Fringe Fest Outdoor Stage at Old Market Square! Powered by the Sunday Morning Resurrection with H., coffee and motivation, I did it, though! I knuckled under and updated the website: Playlists, Six Packs, Brewnos, Guest Links, the whole she-bang! Pictures, Audio clips, and Downloads coming relatively soon.
Tuesday - BJ Garrison @ Mona Lisa Ristorante; Thursday - Rik Leaf house concert; Saturday - Chugfest!

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know - way out of date!

There is always so much going on in the Manitoba summer that I'm too busy experiencing to write. But I'll try - updating the website as we, um err ah, speak.

11 APR 09

Thanks to Kyle and Glen from Lost In Transmission for unveiling their new disc on the show today, Truth, Lies & The Things We Hide which won't be in stores for a few weeks at the earliest. The only place you'll catch the single Take Me Over is 92.9 KICK FM. It all begins with a Beer For Breakfast.

Tune in this week when we will be joined by 2009 Brewno Award Winner Ismaila and The Joys from London. Did you know they had a gold record? Me neither. Canadian Fact: Londoners, the Ontario variety have the greatest amount of disposable income per capita in Canada. Anyway, the female-lead hard rockers hit Doubles Fun Club (apparently it still exists) April 23rd. Check out the calendar on the left, where we post 'em as we book 'em!

The Return to the Vinyl Diner has been postponed until May 2nd. Grand Master Mike, me and SLV spin our favourite (and not so favourite) flat black discs. As promised, I shall bring nothing but gold; Mike has pledged to bring nothing under 8 minutes long and SLV has vowed to make up for our lack of crap by sharing nothing but guilty pleasures.
